It was a highly volatile day, with the Indian markets closing the F&O expiry session with modest losses. Continuous pressure from realty, metal, auto, capital goods, technology and banking stocks pushed markets lower.

Heavyweight draggers — ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, L&T, Infosys, Sterlite Industries, M&M, Hero MotoCorp and DLF. The Nifty fell below the 5500 mark. The markets closed in red for the second consecutive day.

The Sensex closed 67 points lower at 18079 and the Nifty stood at 22 points, down by 5483.
The Indian markets witnessed a drastic fall in the afternoon session following weak European cues after downbeat economic data from the euro zone .

Heavy losses in realty, consumer durables, metal, banking, power and capital goods stocks weighed on the sentiments. Major heavyweight draggers SBI, RIL, ICICI Bank, HDFC, Bharti Airtel, Tata Steel, Jindal Steel and DLF.
It was the biggest fall for markets in the last 16 sessions.

The market breadth stood in favour of declines. Of the 3083 stocks traded on the BSE, 769 (24.94%) rose, 2208 (71.62%) fell and 106 (3.44%) were unchanged.

The Sensex ended at 18145.25, down 283.36 points or 1.54 per cent. It touched intraday high of 18523.78 and low of 18095.81.

The National Stock Exchange's Nifty closed at 5505.35, down 101.80 points or 1.82 per cent. The broader index touched a high of 5629.95 and low of 5491.35 in trade today.

Gold prices on Thursday rose by Rs 60 to trade at Rs 28,340 per ten gram at the bullion market.

Silver ready fell by Rs 300 to Rs 55,900 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 355 to Rs 56,300 per kg.Silver coins remained steady at Rs 67,000 for buying and Rs 68,000 for selling of 100 pieces.

Buy mcx Nickel or NICKELMINI feb expiry future in between 1030-1033 with stoploss of 1020 and targets will be 1055-1065 for tomorrow!!

The market recouped its losses led by metals, technology, capital goods stocks and index heavyweight Reliance Industries. However, the fall in Bharti, ONGC and ICICI Bank capped the upside. The Sensex rose 117 points to 17,739 and the Nifty gained 43 points at 5,378.
Shares of Bharti Airtel dropped more than 6% after dismal performance in bottomoline for Q3FY12.
ONGC remained under pressure, falling more than a percent even after posting a better than expected numbers due to royalty.
Private banks like ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank were down 2% & 0.6%, respectively.
However, metal stocks like Coal India, Jindal Steel and Sterlite rose 1-3%. Hindalco shot up 5%.
Reliance Industries, Infosys, TCS, HDFC, SBI, L&T and HUL gained 0.6-1.6%.
On the global front, European markets were moderately higher on hopes that Greece debt deal may get approved today.


After five successive days of gains, the market ended on a negative note on Tuesday with investors switching over to the selling mode in late afternoon trade, taking some profits in capital goods, metal, realty and power stocks.
The Sensex closed at 17622, down 85 points from its previous close, and the Nifty shut shop at 5335, down 26 points. The CNX Midcap index closed with 1.1% loss while the BSE Smallcap index was down 0.4% in today's trade. The market breadth was negative with advances at 447 against declines of 825 on the NSE.
Both the precious metals, gold and silver, extended gains on Tuesday for the second straight session.
In the Asian region, gold gained 0.5 per cent to USD 1,728.73 an ounce and silver by 0.5 per cent to USD 33.81 an ounce.
